Why We Love Pima Cotton

Why We Love Pima Cotton

Pima is a resilient, long-lasting strain of cotton that grows in arid and dry regions.

The name Pima originated from the Pima tribe that hails from the region we presently call Arizona, however the actual Pima cotton seed originated in the hills of Peru and its farming has since expanded into areas in the United States and Australia.

Pima cotton makes up approximately 3% of all cotton production—making it one of the rarest strains of cotton available today.

What makes this strain special is its long fibers. It makes the cotton extremely durable and also extremely soft—which means your clothes will feel better and last longer.

Pima cotton is also hypoallergenic and won’t irritate even the most sensitive skin types. The reason for this lies in the weaving process; because the cotton fibers are longer than traditional cotton, there are fewer fiber ends exposed on the surface of your garment. This means on a micro-level there is less scratching and friction between your skin and the fabric.

This weaving process also leaves the cotton with a lightweight, silky soft feel—and the most surprising element of this lightweight fabric is its ability to hold warmth (which makes it ideal for cozy sleepwear and loungewear).

Surprisingly, Pima cotton also works as an ideal fabric for those who easily sweat and tend to be sweaty sleepers. The fibers are extremely absorbent and wick away moisture without weighing you down—keeping you comfortable and cool all night long.
